BLACKWELL BAINES, CAITLIN

Freelance Copywriter

NO CV AVAILABLE

I am a freelance writer based in the UK. Born in Toronto, Canada, I have been writing professionally since the age of 14, when I started a bi-weekly column for teens appearing in the Toronto Star, the nation’s widest circulating newspaper. I come from a long line of professional writers, although unlike other family members, I have not followed into a career in journalism, but rather, pursued a doctoral degree in art history. Although many of my recent publications have been written for specialist readers, appearing in prestigious academic art journals, I have extensive experience writing for diverse audiences. I have penned everything from blog posts and social media content to exhibition catalogues and museum guides, all of which are written in clear, accessible and engaging prose. While I specialise in arts and heritage content, I have the ability to provide copy for all types of businesses. I would be pleased to provide clients with a fresh, engaging and intelligent voice for their company. Please get in touch for samples of my published work.

PORTFOLIO

Exhibition Catalogue
In 2017, I wrote and edited the catalogue for an exhibition of paintings held at the Hunterian Art Gallery, Glasgow. I produced both long form essays and brief descriptive entries of catalogue items.

Arts Journalism
As an art historian, my essays have been published in several arts and history periodicals. Although this work is directed at specialist audiences, my writing remains clear and concise, whether for scholarly or general readership. I can also easily apply the skills I have gained as an academic to other forms of writing, research, editing and proofreading.

My most recent mainstream publication is a guide to the painting collection at Mount Stuart, an historic house in Scotland. Published by Scala Arts and Heritage (2020), one of the world's top publishers of arts and heritage books, exhibition catalogues and guidebooks. Other publications in their portfolio include guides to the Royal Collection, the National Gallery and the Hermitage.
