Types of sludge scrapers

Wastewater treatment is a complex, multi-stage process during which various groups of pollutants are removed. One of the stages is the separation of solid particles in settling tanks, where previously liquid waste is often flocculated and deposited. Large and heavy particles settle to the bottom of the tank, from where they are collected by scrapers. What are these devices and what are they like? What is a dirt trap and what is it for?
The name of the sludge scraper is indicated by its name. The device is installed in a sump, i.e. a tank in which coagulation or flocculation of wastewater occurs. Then the sedimentation phenomenon is used, during which wastewater is naturally divided into liquid and solid fractions. Depending on what kind of substances they are, they can sink under their own weight or float to the surface of the liquid. The accumulated material is removed with a sludge scraper. This type of device can be installed in the center of the tank or attached to the side rails. A special drive system moves the lever along the surface or bottom of the sump, causing the collected material to move into the gutters, draining it outwards, where it is subjected to subsequent processes. It would seem that a simple scraper is a technologically advanced design controlled by a computer that controls the speed of movement of the hand or its rotation.Three types of sludge scrapers
Mud scrapers differ in design and principle of operation. This is due to the need to adapt them to the shape and purpose of the settling tank and the type of particles captured. Settling tanks can have a round shape, professionally called radial. They can also be rectangular. There are three main types of scrapers:the bottom radials are installed in the central part of the settling tank and perform a rotational movement like a clockwise arrow,
the surface one is designed to work in rectangular tanks, moving parallel to its sides in such a way that the sleeve is partially immersed in the liquid,
the lower ones are also designed for rectangular settling tanks, but move along the bottom of the settling tank and collect sediment accumulated on it.
The use of each type of scraper requires adjustment of the sump design. For example, radial models require round traps, surface scrapers work with special rotary chutes, and bottom scrapers require a rectangular container with a slightly inclined bottom.
