Creative freelancers to get clued up on finance, IP

Autumn workshops for freelancers seeking the lowdown on access to finance and intellectual property have been launched.

Organised by the Creative Industries Federation, the workshops are aimed at supporting the IP know-how of freelancers -- on November 2nd, and developing their financial nous -- on November 15th.

“These small-group, interactive workshops will be led by experts in their fields and will equip you with the key information and practical skills that you need to help your creative business thrive,” the federation said.

A third workshop on Branding and Marketing is also going to be offered at a later date, with the emphasis expected to be on the same -- actual actions freelancers can take to enrich or expand their operation.

For example, the November 15th financial workshop will equip freelancers (and SMEs if they wish to attend) on which pitches to prioritise, and how to know which contracts will help grow their business.

Erin Walls, co-founder of Ward Williams Creative, an accountancy firm specialising in the creative industries, will host the workshop, scheduled for two-and-a-half hours and costing £95.00.

And Erica Crump, head of culture and creative at law firm Bates Wells Braithwaite, will host the IP workshop, also starting at 0930 and concluding at midday, for the same price.

“Following feedback” the CIF said, addressing creative freelancers, “we have curated [these] sessions…[to] focus on the areas that matter to you the most.”
