Marketing & PR openings 'leading in London'

A slowdown on the horizon for agencies specialising in advertising is yet to have any impact on London workers in the bedfellow sector of Marketing and PR.

In fact, despite a second sales warning being issued last week by WPP, the world’s largest advertising group, marketing and PR openings in the capital grew more than any other sector in the three months to May 2017.

The Association of Professional Staffing Companies, whose member recruitment agencies reported the growth last month, say Marketing and PR generated 5.2% more jobs than in the previous 12 month-period.

Although the agencies’ data was confined to London, the engine of the jobs is universal – Technology, Media and Telecoms companies, and their need for more Marketing and PR expertise.

Across this trio, the capital city’s stock of new jobs in Marketing and PR was counted by APSCo’s member agencies to have leapt annually by double digits -- to 12.4 per cent.

The figures coincide with the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing pinpointing five skills (or traits and competencies) that they brand as “essential” to “enter the world of marketing.”

The five, outlined this month in a post by the institute are; Communication; Industry Knowledge, Social Media Activeness; Authentic ‘Personability’ and ‘Opinionated-ness.’
