HMRC helps freelancers stuck with paperwork

The record-keeping requirements for self-employed freelancers who work as sole traders are to be demystified in a new series of webinars from the taxman.

Updating its webinar page dedicated to the self-employed, HM Revenue & Customs added five new booking slots (starting on April 29th) on the thorny issues of paperwork; how to keep it and for how long.

Although some of HMRC’s online help sessions on record-keeping are suitable for both limited companies and the self-employed, the new addition is strictly for sole traders only.

The one-hour webinar, led by HMRC staff, will allow participants who register in advance the chance to pose their own question on record-keeping, the penalty regime for which has been hotly debated.

Meanwhile, freelancers who can’t make any of the dates but still want to know more about record-keeping are reminded that a pre-recorded version of the webinar is to be made available for viewing outside of the five live slots.
