PR whizz is three-time freelance champion
Vikki beat more than 200 entrants and 48 finalists to take the overall title, having been victorious in the PR, Communications and Public Affairs category earlier in the evening.
Her two awards – Freelancer of 2009 and PR, Comms and Public Affairs Freelancer of 2009 – are in addition to ‘PR Freelancer of the Year,’ which she won at the 2008 awards.
At the time, her work for the client, the Spelling Society, was said to have generated unprecedented media interest and a “strong PR legacy on which the society can continue to build.”
This year, Vikki was spotlighted for her work with Ed Stafford and his bid to become the first man to walk the Amazon River, from source to sea, to raise awareness of climate change.
More specifically, the PR whizz showed an “innovative and tenacious approach to securing publicity and funding” for the project, said awards judge Suzanne Peck, a director at communications firm Sequel group.
In a client testimonial which any freelancer would be proud of, Ed Stafford added of Vikki: “She is creative and…I trust her completely. She is irreplaceable as far as I'm concerned."
The following freelancers also won the top prize in each of their categories: Karina Dahl Wheeler (Advertising & Design); Emma Treadwell (Editorial); Victor Mo (Events); Anthony Sharot (Marketing); Mark Fassbender (Digital Excellence).
Mike Berry, managing director of Xchangeteam, said: “It is a great tribute to Vikki and the wider freelance community that despite a very challenging 12 months freelancers have continued to bring great commitment and ideas to their clients, many of whom have said that the ability to use a flexible workforce has significantly improved their business and helped them survive and thrive in the recession.”
