Hackers use Beckham bait to disguise Trojan

Sophos have warned computer users that a file said to contain compromising pictures of David Beckham is in fact infected by the Hackarmy Trojan horse.

The latest attempt to entice users to infect their PCs has been discovered by antivirus firm Sophos. Messages have been posted onto message boards and newsgroups claiming that the football player has been photographed 'in action' off the field. Typically these message read as follows:

"David Beckham of Real Madrid was caught by photographers with his pants down. Early in the morning he was photographed with a Spanish hooker in a rather compromising position. Photos yet to hit the newspapers have been released here."

Clicking on the link however downloads malicious code that could allow hackers to gain control of your computer. Graham Cluley of Sophos said the file has been posted to thousands of different news sites.

The emergence of this latest virus should amuse fans of the old football joke about The David Beckham Virus: "The computer looks great, all the lights are on, but nothing works."
