Taxman ready to solve freelancers' queries

Freelancers stuck on how to operate compliantly as a self-employed person will today put their questions to the taxman on issues ranging from expenses and NICs to budgeting and paperwork.

According to HM Revenue & Customs, it will run two live webinars that freelancers can join, the first on ‘Business Expenses’ at midday, and the second ‘Self-employment…what you need to know’ at 19.00.

Each of the one-hour sessions let participants ask questions and get answers from the host, an employee of HMRC, meaning freelancers can receive official guidance on their individual business circumstances.

There is also a session at 13.00 today, aimed at demystifying capital expenses for the self-employed, but like the other two it is strictly aimed at sole traders, not directors of limited companies.

Would-be participants of any of the three sessions are advised to register in good time and then to log in at least five minutes before the start, to ensure the software needed for the webinar has time to download.
