Playboy publish centrefold in 3-D

Playboy will today make history by revealing a centrefold shot in 3-D, appearing to "jump off the page and come to life" for buyers of the magazine's June issue.

In a move that apparently realises an early goal for its founder Hugh Hefner, the magazine will come attached with 3-D glasses to view the 3-page, stereoscopic image.

Hefner admitted he couldn't afford to take Playboy 3-D when he first had the idea in the 1950s, though now that he can, will share the "true form" of Playmate of the Year.

It represents Playboy's most recent nod to the big screen, following Hefner's decision last year for it to ogle at The Simpsons, specifically Marge, in the title's October issue.

Whether from a creative or PR impetus, Playboy will hope its tapping into movie phenomena helps it subscription base which, like many magazines, is shrinking.

Today, the circulation for Playboy, which is published worldwide and in Braille, stands at 1.5million subscribers, down from a reported high in 2006 of 3.5million.
