Lastminute.com will show unemployment really can be the opportunity of a lifetime - having reserved an all-expenses-paid job as its ‘Globe Trotter’ for jobless Britons.
The travel portal said the individual selected will be its first official reviewer of its ‘Good Stuff’ products – top-end hotels, gigs, restaurants, and report back via its blog.
They will visit eight cities across three continents, travel 32,000 miles and spend 60 nights away, starting in Dubai, New York, Egypt, Paris, Barcelona, and Las Vegas.
No travel or writing experience is required for the three-month junket, but candidates must have “what it takes to make the most of every minute” and be inspirational.
To this end, applicants must send a photo of themselves having a seriously good time on holiday, with a review of no more than 200 words describing their experience.
Reviews written in a way that could inspire even the most ‘stay-at-home’ reader to set out for that very experience were suggested, according to details of the new post.
A panel of industry experts will vet all applications, leading to a shortlist, face-to-face interviews and finally the appointment of the Globe Trotter, schedule for July 2009.
As all the accommodation for the successful candidate on the trip/lifestyle excursions sleeps two people, the Globe Trotter can bring along a guest, and stay in twin or double rooms.
Lastminute, which said it was showing the ‘silver lining’ to unemployment, claimed the role was worth £20,000, adding, in travel parlance, it would give one jobless Brit a “5* lifestyle.”
