Freelancer in row with Google cameraman

undefined undefined undefined undefined undefined undefined A freelance photographer says a Google Street View cameraman got aggressive after he snapped the operator recording images for the search giant’s new service.

Idris Martin, who has freelanced part-time for 25 years, said he saw the camera-equipped vehicle driving around Wool, Dorset, capturing scenes to publish online.

But when he approached to take photos of the man inside, Mr Martin reportedly said that he was told he had ‘better blur’ out the driver’s face from the photo afterwards.

Standing his ground, the 53-year-old apparently joked “I might and I might not,” which he said seemed to put the operator in a “mildly aggressive” manner.

“All I really said to him was: ‘I’m taking pictures of you taking pictures of me,’” Mr Martin told the Dorset Echo. “‘If you’ve got the right to do it then so have I.’”

Google has said people can request that the images it displays of them, their children or their homes can be erased from Street View, even if the shots are already blurred.

If individuals are unsatisfied with Google’s response to their ‘remove me’ requests, the Information Commissioner’s Office will listen to their concerns.
