Police in Italy have arrested a man who allegedly wandered around famous landmarks in Venice with the sole aim of photographing women’s bottoms.
City officials reportedly said the man was arrested on Saturday after they noticed him closely following women as they passed through St Mark’s Square.
He has since been charged with infringement of privacy after a bag the man was carrying was found to contain DVDs storing the images of 3,000 women’s bottoms.
According to surveillance footage, the 38-year-old was seen trying to position his bag close to the legs of female passers-by, all of whom appeared to be wearing short skirts.
When examined, the BBC reported that the bag contained a small hole for his camera lens to poke through, in order that he could snap the women covertly.
Upon being detained, the alleged voyeur confessed to have spent the last two years tilting his camera in such a position to snap compromising photos of women.
Fox News reported that the man has now been released but police have filed a complaint for invasion of privacy, a crime carrying a penalty of up to two years in jail.
