Church tries to de-stress workers

Post-holiday blues typically engulf workers returning from their summer breaks, but help is at hand from the above.

Posted on their website yesterday, the Church of England is offering prayers to brighten up the inevitable return to the grind for workers and owner-managers alike.

The online selection ranges from the words of the hymn writer Charles Wesley to the thoughts of a curate from East London.

There are five prayers in total, all of which deal with modern day concerns. The shortest one is aimed at people who spend much of their work on the telephone.

It reads: “Father, as I talk to this person, give me a listening ear and gracious tongue.”

Another is aimed at stressed out commuters. It says “For the sake of my sanity” help me share God’s peace and grace “with the people here.”

The online selection, which is available at http://www.cofe.anglican.org/prayers/, also includes religious words of wisdom for teenagers anxious about their exam results.
