Classes begin for creative freelancers

The British Library is about to start
an intensive programme of seminars designed to demystify legal issues for creative freelancers, including copyright, trademarks, patents and IP.

Throughout September, the seminars will see creative start-ups ‘ask the experts’ about how resources in and out of the library can boost their legal understanding.

Many of the seminars focus on how creative types can leverage value from their IP rights, and what steps they should take to prevent the value being lost.

But micro businesses don’t have to be in the creative industries to benefit from the seminars: the classes will reveal the best practice in market research, business development and green techniques – issues pertinent to a wide array of businesses.

Most of the seminars are free but some like ‘What does marketing really mean?’ and ‘Measuring your social impact’ attract attendance fees ranging from £5 to £60.

Budding Web tycoons should note that on September 26, Martha Lane Fox, co-founder of lastminute.com, will be among the panelled speakers for the ‘internet icons’ seminar, which costs up to £10 to attend.
