Ogle the best in photojournalism

Time is running out for creative types to see 200 award-winning photographs hailed as the most exemplary contributions to photojournalism in 2006.

Curators at the Royal Festival Hall on the Southbank, which is hosting the exhibition, say the images are powerful, moving and at times disturbing.

National newspapers in the UK have been showcasing some of the most arresting shots, including the winning image taken by Spencer Platt of Getty Images.

His photo, which was taken in August last year, shows a group of Lebanese twenty-somethings driving through a bombed out neighbourhood in South Beirut.

It appears in the exhibition alongside images of war-torn Iraq, street dancers in Paris, fans and footballers at the World Cup, and the vicious hunting grounds of the Leopard seal.

Although the exhibition is temporarily closed for one day on September 6, it is now free to visit until it finally closes on September 9, 2007.
