An internal memo doing the rounds at Emap has upset some of the media organisation’s senior editorial staff over what it implied between the lines.
The note, sent to staff on Friday, explained an internal review by the executive board could lead to the publisher of titles including Zoo, Q and FHM being broken up.
Obtained by a Sunday paper, the memo told staff worldwide, thousands of whom are journalists, that any press coverage in the coming days would be purely speculative.
“They essentially told thousands of journalists that we should not believe what we read in the papers,” one unnamed Emapper told The Sunday Telegraph.
He added: “ We were astounded. What kind of contempt do they hold us in?”
