Tips on how to run a successful design business are being given free of charge from the Design Business Association’s website.
Signing up for membership grants automatic access to even more pointers from the DBA’s report, which reveals the goings-on in design consultancies.
The report, which is compiled annually, found one in four design agencies are losing potential income through inefficiency, inaccurate quoting and free pitching.
While the DBA concedes creativity is best left to the experts – namely self-employed designers, its remit is to heighten awareness of the financial pitfalls they may face.
To this end, members have discounted access to range of events, training courses and networks, aimed at making the financial side of running a business more palatable.
The Association has also reported on the worrying trend that young creative consultancies are undervaluing themselves, making them vulnerable to exploitation.
Their report found young designers even offer discounts on projects up to a third less than the market value, serving, in the long term, to restrict their company’ growth and profitability.
