Church enlists The Simpsons to teach

The Church of England is following in the footsteps of the Roman Catholic Church, which is using Manga-style characters to boost its profile, by using Homer Simpson as a role model.

Well sort of: the beer-swilling icon is to feature in a new book – Mixing It Up With The Simpsons – being sent to church youth workers at the behest of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Disclosures obtained by The Daily Mail, which reported the move yesterday, claim the hit cartoon will also be screened to highlight Christian themes, like love, punishment and the Second Coming.

Owen Smith, the youth worker behind the new book, told the paper: β€œThe Simpsons is hugely moral, with many episodes dealing with issues and dilemmas faced by young people.”
