Mars to go green after vegetarian outcry

Only the most successful entrepreneurs make mistakes, and the shrewdest ones will not only learn – they’ll also earn from the experience.

Evidencing the claim, the Harvard Business School has penned a paper suggesting that if we learn from our mistakes, then people should go out and make some intentionally.

Whether intentional or not, Masterfoods, makers of Mars, last month caused outrage by saying it could no longer guarantee that the bar would be free of animal products.

At the time, the manufacturing giant explained that a new recipe for the chocolate would effectively prohibit vegetarians from buying it, prompting 6,000 complaints.

The makers of Mars also took out full-page adverts in the national press, reassuring vegetarians that they their complaints were being taken seriously.

However disclosures obtained by The Daily Mail reveal that Masterfoods is now in talks with the Vegetarian Society to offer the world’s first vegetarian chocolate bar.

Officials at the Society told the paper: “There are a number of conditions that have to be met before Mars can get this.

“For example, any eggs used in the recipe must be free-range, which can be a big issue for manufacturers.”

If the manufacturer succeeds, it was reported that an agreement would take at least two weeks to finalise.

The traditionally black and red wrapper of a Mars Bar is expected to feature the Society’s green V – if the new product passes rigorous tests for accreditation.
