A photographic artist who focuses on human behaviour, interactions and how we represent ourselves has started a project to see how 30 Londoners interpret a single blue plastic bag.
Marysa Dowling’s idea is to photograph each participant with the carrier, before they hand it to another who must be 10 years older or younger than the previous person.
The project, entitled Movement of an Object, has been commissioned to coincide with the Keith Arnatt exhibition, which runs from June 28 to August 26 at The Photographers Gallery.
It will result in a fold-out publication of 30 photographic portraits, showing how each subject interpreted the bag at different London locations, according to the Saatchi Gallery’s blog.
The idea is for each participant to input their own ideas and imagination about the carrier, as well as their choice about who should be the next partaker.
The final images charting 'the movement of an object' through Dowling's portraits will be launched at The Photographers' Gallery in the summer.
