The creators of Mickey Mouse have reportedly been hired to give charm offensive lessons to America’s surly immigration officials.
Disney will work closely with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to replace their scowls with smiles, following complaints of a hostile reception from international visitors.
In fact, seven out of ten people who’ve dropped the US as a holiday destination cited an aggressive reception as the reason, according to disclosures obtained by The Daily Mail.
A spokeswoman for the immigration department told the paper: “There has been a problem in the way we have been perceived in countries including Britain, and we are working very closely with Disney.
“They have offered suggestions about how we can improve the entire arrivals process.”
Training is expected to give officers tips on how to be upbeat and smiling at all times, how to manage large queues and how to respond to ‘negative reactions’ from the public.
The success of the PR effort is pressing, given the US has lost nearly 60million international travellers since 9/11, explaining why it now wants to attract 10m more every year.
