In a sign that one major bank is listening to its customers, Cater Allen, the private bank, is setting up a website that will allow its account holders to do their banking online.
Disclosures obtained by a Sunday newspaper suggest that wealthy customers have convinced the bank to reverse its long-standing policy of ‘offline banking only.’
Traditionally, Cater Allen believed it could “maintain a certain cachet” by bucking the trend of high street and private banks migrating their service to the Web.
But Richard Dunn, managing director, is reported to have made a significant investment in technology after listening to his customers, who typically bank via telephone or post.
“Recently it has become very obvious that many of our customers want online banking as another option,” Mr Dunn told the Mail on Sunday’s financial supplement yesterday.
The site, which is currently under construction, is expected to trigger a corporate rebranding, which will emphasise the link with parent company Santander, denoted by a red flame.
However, Mr Dunn has stressed that Cater Allen will remain a separate unit within the Spanish-owned group, in move that will mimic the success Santander’s Banif bank.
