An internet entrepreneur is being credited with kick starting what could be the Web’s next big thing – ‘lifecasting.’
Justin Kan, 23, has strapped a camera to his head so viewers can watch what he gets up to everyday for the rest of his life.
Well almost: the camera is panned at the ceiling when he uses the lavatory and is dismantled to focus on his bed when he sleeps.
Yesterday, thousands of viewers watched as Mr Kan made his way to a series of interviews from media outlets, wanting to know how his life has changed by overturning his privacy.
Some of their interest stems from the phenomenal response that the lifecast has had since Kan and his team of three staff started the experiment 15 days ago.
Already he has been forced to remove his mobile phone number from his website – JustinTV – after he was inundated with calls.
Some viewers of the experiment have tried to influence the live action, by directing police to Kan’s flat, separate to offers of dates with young women.
Mr Kan, who is single, remains undecided whether any encounters he chooses to accept will be broadcast live and unedited, as his fans are now demanding.
It also remains unclear how Mr Kan will monetise his experiment, such as through advertising, beyond the existing cadre of sponsors and partners of JustinTV.
He does however have an online PayPal account which is accepting donations, presumably for those sympathetic to his mantra of ‘waste time watching other people waste time.’
