Kodak unveils 'digital cameras for girls'

Pink digital cameras that come in matching leather purses have been unveiled by Kodak as part of the company’s bid to woo female photographers.

Two new models, the V1003 and V803, each with 10-megapixel resolution and 8 mega-pixel resolution, took centre stage yesterday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The 32mb zoom cameras come in a range of different colours and names, like ‘red shimmer,’ ‘pink bliss’ and ‘mystic purple’, alongside fashion accessories like glitzy bags and neck straps.

Similar to the personal ‘faces’ of mobile phones to clip-on as attachments, each model comes in a range of colourful ‘skins’ – so owners can use their cameras to “make a statement,” Kodak says.

The V1003, which is available from March, and the V803 – available from February, are set to be popular among their target audience, if Kodak’s research is right.

Speaking to the Democrat & Chronicle, the company revealed findings that indicate its female customers spend significant amounts of their time either buying or using digital cameras.

A spokeswoman told the paper: “This is the year when it's about 'her.' We're talking about ways to bring photography to life and express yourself in very personal ways.”

Part of the pledge explains yesterday’s unveiling of Digital Picture Frames, which play vibrant slideshows of users’ favorite pictures and videos to the music of their choice.

In the coming months, so-called ‘facial search technology’ will allow home PC users to search for and find images of a specific person just by using a sample image.
