School inspector Ofsted has reportedly spotlighted a freelance web developer for her exemplary work in making over the Internet presence of a London school.
Nathalie Vu-Van-Toan was singled out in a report after her company Raspberry Frog colourfully designed the Web portal for St. Paul’s Academy, a secondary school in Greenwich.
Her specialism centres on ensuring the websites she designs are user-friendly for people with disabilities, which in turn boosts the visibility of the site ranking in main search engines.
Many of her clients, such as schools and small businesses, need reminding that they now have a legal obligation to ensure their website can be accessed easily by disabled users, she said.
“All websites, whether they belong to a small business, a giant corporation, or an educational establishment, have to comply,” Nathalie told the Birmingham Post.
"SMEs should remember that there are 8.5 million disabled people in the UK – 14 per cent of the population – with around £50 billion a year to spend.”
Since her citation from Ofsted, Raspberry Frog has been making giant leaps as a fledgling start-up, in an area that is notoriously difficult to stand out from rivals.
The firm's owner-manager reflected: “I tell people that if their website is accessible it means it's faster to download, it’s visible to more browsers, and it increases their audience by a significant number.”
