Wallpaper pioneer to launch new title

The journalist and entrepreneur behind design industry bible Wallpaper is planning to launch a new title aimed at high-flying professionals.

Tyler Brule is reportedly to launch Monocle – a magazine that will be based in London, but sold worldwide, aided by bureaux in New York, Tokyo and Zurich.

It will hit the shelves in early 2007 with a price tag of £5, to offer the affluent the lowdown on business, culture and luxury items.

Speaking to a Sunday newspaper, Mr Brule described Monocle as a serious publication that would keep its audience at the cutting-edge with editorial unafraid to explore the future.

“We have been influenced by the success of the Economist and the BBC in North America,” he told The Observer, “but we will be bringing stories to life with our writing and reportage and looking ahead a bit, which is very different to what the Economist does.”

Monocle is expected to appeal to successful professionals who travel widely and divide their time between several cities.
