Budding entrepreneurs who want to turn pipedreams into a commercial reality are being invited onto radio to win £15,000 just for pitching their business idea.
There’s no panel of hard-nosed investors to overcome, and any type of innovative idea will be accepted, regardless of whether it focuses on the creative industries.
Announcing the unique opportunity, Virgin Radio (105.8FM) said budding entrepreneurs simply have to call up Christian O’Connell’s Breakfast Show to be in with a chance of a tax free £15,000.
This is on offer in the final of competition, but during elimination stages there’s a prize of £1,000, simply for getting through to the show and outlining your business plan.
From October 23, the lines will be open for aspiring business people to ring into the breakfast show, where Christian will pick three registered callers to go live to the nation.
To register, you simply need to log on to the Virgin radio website and fill in the details of your small business or idea on a Barclays micro site.
The bank, which is sponsoring the show, will provide one of its enterprise experts to help the winner get their business off to a flying start, with advice and support.
Although the contest is aimed at would-be entrepreneurs, early stage firms and nascent companies are also invited to compete.
Innovators too shy for radio, or too protective of their ideas, can sign up to Barclays’ free workshops, aimed at helping the self-employed boost profits, and improve their marketing.
Hosted across the UK by the bank’s small business experts and enterprise guru Robert Craven, the events are billed as a chance for entrepreneurs to gain perspective on their venture.
“It’s a brilliant opportunity to step back, think about what you are trying to do and start to make decisions that will fundamentally improve the profitability of your business,” Mr Craven said.
