Entrepreneurs are individuals with a good social awareness who often use local matters on their doorstep to springboard into business.
A report by Microsoft reveals one in four company directors overseeing a small or mid-sized venture are in business as a result of responding to local needs.
Poor employment opportunities in their region spurred a further 20 per cent of individuals to start-up according to the software giant’s findings, which have been obtained by the Mail on Sunday.
Today, enterprising individuals in the South West and North East are most concerned by a local skills gap, while their Welsh counterparts cite a lack of innovation as the biggest problem, the study shows.
The findings add that small remains beautiful for the nation’s entrepreneurs, as almost half of owner-managers questioned labelled their venture as ‘local.’
Just over a third said they operate across the UK, while 19 per cent said they view their business as operating on a scale best-described as ‘global.’
