Designers wanted for legal speakeasy

The final call has been sounded to freelance designers who want to sharpen their employer’s legal know-how by directing them to a free seminar designed to step-over the pitfalls of employment contracts.

Launched by the Design Business Association, the seminar is offering client companies and freelance consultancies best practice advice to ensure contracts meet both party’s professional requirements.

Although many design consultancies may have contracts in place, the Association says “many are unaware how to use them effectively in the workplace.”

The free event is split into two sessions, with the second half devoted to making contracts work for the client company or consultancy founder.

Some of the tutoring is expected to stress the importance of correctly defined contracts as central to means to protecting the business against litigation.

“If you are one of the many employers who also use freelancers or self-employed contractors, this insightful evening will provide advice on how to avoid employment pitfalls,” the DBA’s invite reads.

Attendees will also have the chance to join a policy discussion on the Age Discrimination Act, due to be introduced in October 2006.

Refreshments will be provided at the London-based event, said to be an ideal opportunity for networking. All interested parties must immediately e-mail an ‘RSVP invite’ the below contact before the end of today. jolita.vadopalaite@dba.org.uk
