University College London has flung open its doors to welcome budding entrepreneurs who are keen to turn their enterprising ideas into a commercial reality.
A unique one-year Masters programme is on offer for all ambitious students who seek best practice advice on how to start-up a business.
To this end, applicants will compose a thorough business plan for their dissertation study, to complete the theoretical content of the course.
Upon finishing the study, budding entrepreneurs can expect ongoing practical help to kick start their business career.
This will be offered through assistance in making valuable contacts, such as access to potential investors, business partners, venture capitalists and clients.
Richard Duvall, founder of Zopa, the lending service, said the programme is a great opportunity for entrepreneurs.
“I wish it had existed when I was starting out,” he said.
“What I find particularly appealing is its practical approach in helping students to turn their ideas into actual businesses. The fundamentals of starting any business are the same so it should appeal to budding entrepreneurs from all over the world.”
Debbie Stayeley, founder of bClearCommunications, the PR specialist, hinted that the course would save aspiring business owners valuable time and resources.
She told Freelance UK: “My biggest challenge was not how to get work as that came in quicker than I had ever anticipated, but all of the admin around setting up on your own.
“Issues like; what will I call myself? What should my logo look like? What do I need to include on a business card? And when do I tell the tax office?”
UCL said the Technical Ventures and Foundations of Entrepreneurship (TVFE) MSc degree is primarily aimed at individuals who wish to benefit from its prestigious engineering, scientific and medical expertise.
Professor Steven Currall of UCL said the degree is on offer to people with a “new business idea who want to turn it into reality,” without having to commit to three years of study.
He added, “The value of TVFE is that it equips entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and knowledge to give them an edge in the business arena. Starting a new venture is one of life’s great journeys; TVFE perfectly positions its students for long-term success in new ventures.”
