Freelance Editor / Proofreader

Proofreading, editing, ESL editing.

I am a professional proofreader and editor offering a friendly, reliable and efficient editorial service to publishers, authors, businesses, academics and students (including overseas students for whom English is their second language). I offer a proofreading service which checks for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation, and an editing service which also checks factual consistency, sentence structure, choice of vocabulary and general readability. My rates are reasonable and negotiable, and I offer a 10% discount for students.

I can receive work by post or by email, and am able to work on hard copy or on-screen using track changes. I am happy to consider any subject, but my particular areas of interest are fiction, poetry, music, philosophy, psychology, genealogy, law and education.

I have worked with several publishers and authors and have experience in proofreading and editing children's books, adult fiction, teenage fiction, autobiographies, short stories, poetry and non-fiction. I also have a strong background in editing undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations, PhD theses, business documents and membership magazines. The students I have worked with have often been overseas students and so English is not their first language; therefore, I have been able to assist them using my ESL editing skills and improve the overall readability of their work.

I have a BA (Hons) in English & US Literature, am trained via Chapterhouse and am currently studying 'Basic Proofreading' and Successful Editorial Freelancing' with The Publishing Training Centre. I am also an associate member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders.
