Copy editing

No matter how tangled the mass of words before you seems, I can tease out the sense and shape locked inside. Articles, reports, books, opinion pieces, from specialist subjects to general interest, send me your sow's ear and I will return a silk purse. I offer fast, reliable service and consultation at reasonable rates. Considerable experience with English-second-language writers.
Journal editing
I currently edit International Construction Review, a professional journal for the Chartered Institute of Building. Highly commended by the International Building Press Association, it is read by senior professionals in over 80 countries. I launched the magazine in 2006. I have also edited monthly and weekly magazines about IT and local government and before entering the corporate and trade press I was a regional newspaper editor in Canada.

Features
A specialty: boldly conceived, meticulously researched and engagingly written. Recently I have written international reports on Libya as an emerging market, China's evolving construction industry and illegal evictions in Vietnam. My range includes attention-grabbers, such as mafia infiltration of the New York construction scene, as well as technical or specialist articles on anything from wealth management and local government to insurance and building regulations. Deadlines and quality are guaranteed.
Books & projects
As well as a current ghostwriting project, I recently edited "Building Modern China", published June 2009 by the Chartered Institute of Building. It provides a unique perspective on China's urban explosion through in-depth interviews with the officials, entrepreneurs and academics who made it happen. As project editor of this quality, 110-page coffee-table book, my job was to conduct interviews, commission Chinese-speaking writers and photographers, and oversee concept development, design, proofing and production.

Creative
Having plenty to say but not knowing where to start is a common frustration. But it needn't be. I can assist with all types of content generation, from factual reports and press packs to marketing literature and web copy. Clients can be assured of whatever effect they're looking for. Sometimes you need that extra flair. My illustrated novella, ''Instructions for the Apocalypse'', appeared August 2009 from Mark Batty Publisher of New York. I have also ghost-written sketches, columns, opinion pieces and book prefaces.
