CRATHORNE, LOUISE
Freelance Editor / Proofreader
I am a freelance medical writer and editor, and event manager.
As a freelance medical writer and editor, I have eight years' experience of working in all areas of medical publishing - whether in print, online or on CD-ROM - and for all audiences, including patients, generalists, specialists and the pharmaceutical industry.
I also have experience of project managing and delivering health technology appraisals (clinical and health economic dossiers) for submission to the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG), and Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC). I have experience of working with pharmaceutical clients and external advisors to write-up and present clinical and health economic evidence; and, more recently experience of working with the academic technology assessment group, Peninsula Technology Assessment Group (PenTAG), to review and critique industry submissions submitted to NICE.
In my role at Burson-Marsteller I worked with sanofi-aventis and Bristol-Myers Squibb and the International Publication Committee (IPC) to establish the REACH Editorial Support Group (ESG), responsible for project management and coordination of data analysis and publication activities of the REACH Registry. I led a team of two Associates to provide assistance to the IPC in the development and implementation of the publication plan, to ensure the appropriate rollout of global REACH data and communication of key messages to the cardiovascular community. Successful coordinated abstract submissions have resulted in a high level of activity for the REACH Registry with over 19 oral and 31 poster presentations at major international congresses. A total of 13 REACH Registry papers have been published to date. The REACH Registry landmark manuscript reporting baseline data was published in 2006 in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), the most widely circulated medical journal in the world with a 92% rejection rate. This generated global interest in the REACH Registry, extending beyond the cardiovascular community. A key finding that patients are undertreated with statins and antiplatelet therapies, even though these therapies have proven benefit for patients with or at risk of established atherosclerotic disease was widely communicated.
As my previous roles have included medical writing or editing in a wide range of specialties, daily news writing, project management, primary papers, and editing, I am happy working on a variety of assignments, from medical news and features to newsletters, information leaflets, product monographs, books, promotional copy and entire medical websites.
I have experience in the following specialty areas, including cardiology and cardiovascular diseases, dermatology, gastroenterology, oncology, psychiatry and respiratory medicine, as well as general medicine.
